Did you know Michigan's Conservation Districts are local units of government that utilize state, federal, and private sector resources to solve today's conservation challenges? We're also your neighbors.

As the local providers of natural resource management services -- similar to your local fire, police, health, and school services -- we help our fellow Michiganders conserve their lands and waterways so our environment can be as clean, healthy, and economically robust as possible.

Created nationwide following the devastation of the 1930s Dust Bowl, the guiding philosophy of Conservation Districts is that decisions on conservation issues should be made at the local level, by local people, with technical assistance provided by government-affiliated organizations.

All citizens are also welcome to get involved with their local District, whether by joining the District's Board of Directors, applying for a staff position, becoming an Advocate, or volunteering with community outreach programs like Michigan's Envirothon high school team competition (think Science Olympiad, but focused on Environmental Science!).

We serve as stewards of natural resources, taking a holistic ecosystem approach to conservation and protection.

Our conservation programs and services are also happy to link landowners and managers to any additional programs, resources, and opportunities available.
