Marquette, MI — May 6, 2026 — The Michigan Envirothon State Competition will take place May 12–14, 2026, at Northern Michigan University (NMU), bringing together 16 high school teams from across Michigan for a hands-on environmental science competition.

Michigan Envirothon is an environmental education program that challenges students to apply their knowledge of natural resource topics, including aquatics, forestry, soils and land use, wildlife, and a current environmental issue. What makes Envirothon unique is that the competition is run through field-based testing and problem-solving activities, and focuses on being hands-on and outdoors for in-field application. The program is coordinated by the Michigan Association of Conservation Districts (MACD) in partnership with local conservation districts, educators, and natural resource professionals.

Throughout the three-day event, students will rotate through a series of outdoor testing stations and participate in a collaborative Community Outreach Project presentation, demonstrating their understanding of real-world environmental issues and their ability to communicate solutions effectively.

The media is invited to attend the Awards Ceremony on Thursday, May 14, at 1:30 PM, where the top-performing team will be announced. The winning team will go on to represent Michigan at the National Conservation Foundation (NCF) Envirothon, held in Starkville, Mississippi, in July 2026.

“Michigan Envirothon provides students with a unique opportunity to engage in hands-on learning while exploring careers in conservation and environmental science,” said Rivka Hodgkinson, MACD Executive Director. “We are proud to support the next generation of environmental leaders.”

This event would not be possible without the support of dedicated volunteers, educators, sponsors, and conservation partners who contribute their time and expertise to make this program a success.
